Episode 39 – Cilantro // Musician.

“Cilantro is the musical moniker of my new friend Mars. Woah - what a cool sentence that is to say out loud! Cilantro. New friend. The name Mars - radness all around if ya ask me! The first time I ever really met Mars, she gave me a chocolate chip cookie and if that’s not a good way to someone’s heart, I don’t know what is. And then the first time we really hung out, we made something together. We co-designed the cassette tape album packaging for her new album coming out. It was such a fun and free-flowing creative experience working together on that packaging project and working with her really helped me tap back in to how fulfilling it can be to just ride a creative wave and just go with it. As in, to be intentional with your decision making while creating something, but also to just take a breath and keep in mind that a pure artistic expression of any given moment is what matters most. It’s more about trusting the process than overthinking a piece and that’s pretty much how Mars’ creative life is to T. It’s fun and it’s beautiful and it’s honest. In a world where people are so self-indulgent, Mars and her music project Cilantro feels like an antidote. I’m really stoked on this episode and I love how this podcast has helped fuse some new creative people into my little life here in San Francisco.

In this episode of BEDROOM™, Cilantro, aka my friend Mars, shares about how she came into making music and she also sheds some light upon the artistic practices that branch off of her creative tree. She gives the scoop about how she received a grant from Women’s Audio Mission and how that grant helped enable her to make her upcoming new album. Mars’ shares some behind the scenes stories of the recording process and we talk about creative flow and how important and freeing that process can be.
